Lucknow, 20 September: The statement of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker and MLA from Unnao district Hriday Narayan Dixit regarding Mahatma Gandhi has become matter of discussion over various social media platforms.

Dixit said in the Prabhudha Varg Sammelan in Unnao on Saturday that Gandhiji used to read newspapers, used to wear fewer clothes, used to wear dhoti, the country called Gandhiji as Bapu.

He further said that if someone became great by wearing fewer clothes then Rakhi Sawant would also have become great. His statement is being trolled. The people of the opposition are raising questions. After this, Speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit tweeted that his statement is being twisted and presented. Dixit has also tweeted his statement.

Assembly Speaker Dixit clarified by tweeting that some friends on social media are circulating a video excerpt of my speech with a hint of meaning otherwise. In fact this is part of my speech at the conference of Unnao in which the director introduced me and described me as an enlightened writer.

He further said that I had said while taking the matter forward from this point that one does not become enlightened just by writing some books and articles. Mahatma Gandhi used to wear fewer clothes. The country called him Bapu. But this does not mean that Rakhi Sawant will also become Gandhiji. Someone made a video of it and made it viral on social media.
