New Delhi, 18 March: According to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, there are less than 10 lakh malnourished children in the country.

Union Minister Smriti Irani told the Rajya Sabha that there are reports coming from states that no formal survey was conducted on malnutrition during lockdown due to corona.

She said that the survey could not be done due to outbreak of global pandemic Covid-19 as all Anganwadi centers were kept closed during this period. But Anganwadi workers have provided nutritious food to the beneficiaries every 15 days.

She further said that she has also helped the local administration in awareness programs to prevent the spread of corona infection. The Ministry has taken several effective steps to eliminate malnutrition among children. Nutrition parks are being built in Anganwadi centers. Assistance of testing and technology is being taken to improve the quality of nutritional food. In view of the problem of malnutrition, Ayush treatment methods are also being used.
