Lucknow: CBI arrests couple accused of Ponzi schemes

Lucknow, 18 March: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team on Thursday arrested Saket Banerjee and his wife Kamaljeet Banerjee from Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow, accused of crores of chit fund scams. The CBI team was looking for the couple for a long time.

According to the CBI, Saket Banerjee, director of Global Infra Energy Limited of West Bengal and his wife Kamaljeet, are accused of cheating crores of rupees by luring investors of huge profits. The company is accused of cheating thousands of people in several states including West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

In 2017, a case was filed against the director and his wife on the orders of the Jharkhand High Court under severe sections of cheating and embezzlement.

The CBI was informed that the couple are hiding in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. After this, CBI conducted raids in Gomti Nagar and both were arrested.
