Haryana on alert after violence in Delhi, internet services suspended in 3 districts

Chandigarh, 26 January: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal called a meeting of the High Power Committee on Tuesday evening following the eruption of violence during the farmers’ agitation in Delhi, which was attended by top officials including Chief Secretary Vijay Vardhan, Home Secretary Rajiv Arora, and Director General of Police Manoj Yadav.

In the meeting, the government decided to discontinue internet services in the districts adjoining Delhi – Sonepat, Palwal and Jhajjar till 5 pm on Wednesday.

During this time only voice calls will remain active. Internet services were stopped with immediate effect following orders from the government.

The government made it clear that these services have been stopped to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation.

However, after the incident in Delhi, all the district administration and police have been given instructions to remain on high alert.

So far, additional police force has been deployed in the adjoining districts of Delhi. Police officers of all districts have been instructed to keep in touch with Chandigarh headquarters.
