Fourteen years on the run ends—UP STF nabs fugitive in Mathura

Aligarh, April 14: The Bareilly unit of the Uttar Pradesh Task Force (STF) arrested a wanted criminal on Tuesday from Mathura who had escaped from police custody 14 years ago and was carrying a reward of ₹ 50,000. The STF handed him over to the Government Railway Police of Aligarh for further action.

The STF’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdul Qadir said on Tuesday that in 2012, criminal Rajneesh alias Rajesh alias Chandrabhan had escaped from Aligarh Junction while being produced in court. The STF arrested Rajneesh from Mathura.

The ASP Qadir said that the accused has been handed over to the Aligarh GRP for further action.

Rajneesh, a B.Pharma graduate from Bengaluru who once worked in Roorkee, killed his niece’s husband in anger over her love marriage and was jailed in Moradabad, but on August 8, 2012, escaped police custody at Aligarh Junction while being taken for a court appearance, and has since been hiding under false identity across New Delhi, Rajasthan, and now Mathura.
