Delhi, March 25: On the occasion of Holi, seven people, including three children, were burnt after coming in contact with high tension in South Ganesh Nagar of East Delhi on Monday.

The injured were admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital for treatment. Due to the blast in the transformer, about half a dozen electric poles caught fire and the electronic equipment of the houses also got burnt.

On the festival of Holi, Holika Dahan took place at a square in South Ganesh Nagar on Sunday night. Holi fun and songs were going on since night. When the season of playing colours started on Monday morning, groups started coming out on the streets, on which children started pouring colours from their respective rooftops with water filled balloons and atomizers.

Meanwhile, ignoring the high tension line passing over the roof of house number D-96, the children started celebrating Holi with water and colored balloons, but they were unaware of the current of 1.8 lakh voltage running in the high tension line.

Eyewitnesses said that children playing Holi from the roof of the fifth floor of the house directed water from a water cannon towards the high tension line, due to which high voltage current came down on the roof along with the water. At that time, the landlord, Devendra Negi alias Monu, 41, was with his wife Soni, 32, two children Neev Negi (13 years), Naksh Negi (07 years), niece Pari Gosain (14 years) were playing Holi on the terrace.

Pari Gosain had come to her grandmother’s house to celebrate the festival of Holi. Apart from this, the tenant living on the second floor working in the army was present on the terrace along with his friend, a soldier. All of them got jolted by high voltage current. Due to the effect of electric current, all seven people were seriously burnt and the skin of their bodies was completely peeled off.

Due to this, there was a blast in the transformer of South Ganesh Nagar and about half a dozen electric poles connected to it caught fire and the power supply of the entire locality was disrupted. Due to high voltage current, electronic equipment of more than two dozen houses around the house where the accident took place was blown up. Due to this accident, there was an uproar in the entire locality and the festival turned into a sad atmosphere.

On receiving the information, police administration and fire brigade officials reached the spot. They sent these burnt children to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and the elders to Safdarjung Hospital by ambulance.

After this, fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and started extinguishing the fire in about half a dozen electric poles, and the fire could be controlled after several hours. After this, the officials of the electricity department started efforts to start electricity supply in the houses affected by the high voltage of the high tension line, but till the time of writing the news, the situation has not become normal.

After this accident, the festival of Holi in South Ganesh Nagar of East Delhi has turned into mourning. The condition of the burnt people admitted in the hospital remains critical.
