New Delhi, 20 June: The second petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the ‘Agnipath’ scheme for the recruitment in Tri-Services.

It was said in this petition that this scheme has been brought without the approval of Parliament; hence this scheme is unconstitutional and illegal. The petition has sought cancellation of notification of Agnipath scheme.

The petition filed earlier has sought the formation of an SIT to probe the violence against the scheme and the damage caused to public property.

Advocate Manohar Lal Sharma has said in the petition that on being selected through the Short Service Commission (SSC), an army officer gets an opportunity to serve for 10 to 14 years. In contrast, only 25 per cent of the Agniveers recruited for four years under the Agnipath scheme will be made permanent in the army while 75 per cent will be laid off after four years.

The petition said that after the announcement of this scheme, the youth who cherished the dream of joining the army were disappointed and they started protesting across the country. The protests turned violent in many places.

Even before this, another petition has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Agnipath scheme.

The petition, filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, has sought the formation of an SIT to probe the violence against the scheme and the damage caused to public property.

It has been said in this petition that the youth joining the army under the Agnipath scheme will have doubts about their future.

The petition has also sought the formation of an expert committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to examine the impact of the scheme on national security and the Indian Army.
