‘Bharat Bandh’ completely ineffective in UP

Lucknow, June 20: Bharat Bandh remained completely ineffective in other districts of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Barabanki, Gorakhpur, Ballia on Monday. In all the districts of the state, all shops and business establishments remained open from morning till evening as usual. No untoward incident was reported till late evening.

This Bharat Bandh, which was called in protest against the Agnipath scheme of military recruitment, was supported by Congress and Left organizations.

However, in view of this, the Uttar Pradesh Police was taking full vigil since morning. Suspects were taken into custody in most of the districts.

According to Additional Director General of Police Law and Order Prashant Kumar, 141 companies of PAC and 10 companies of paramilitary force were deployed in view of Bharat Bandh.

He said that 39 small and big cases have been registered at the state level, 475 people have been detained. At the same time, 330 people were arrested under serious sections. Further, recovery will also be made from those who have been found to cause damage to government property.

Additional Director General of Police, Railways Piyush Anand said that in view of Bharat Bandh, Railway Police was keeping an eye on every corner. The Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel patrolled since morning and interrogated any suspicious person. In sensitive districts like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ballia, Prayagraj, a tight-knit system was kept and no untoward incident was reported till late evening.

He added, special vigil was taken in the districts of Uttar Pradesh adjoining Delhi-NCR. Prominent Congress leaders were placed under house arrest, so that they could not come on the road with a crowd. The effect of Bharat Bandh was not visible in Lucknow and markets remained open since morning. People started their daily routine as usual.
