New Delhi, 07 October: The Cabinet has approved the agreement between Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and Canadian non-profit International Barcode of Life (IBOL) in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

However, the agreement between the two entities was reached in June this year.

Under this agreement, DNA barcoding will help in correctly identifying animal species with sorting a small segment of standardized gene regions.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will enable it to participate in global level programs like Zoological Survey of Indiaโ€™s Biosan and Planetary Biodiversity Mission.
