Uttar Pradesh: State govt plans to replace all electricity meters to smart prepaid meters by 2023

Lucknow, May 06: State Power Minister Shrikant Sharma on Wednesday rendered necessary guidelines to officers in the Shakti Bhavan to review the next four-year vision-mission of the Department of Power for how maximum benefits can be given to consumers.

He said that the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) is continuously working towards liberating consumers from the problems of wrong bills and meter reading. For this, the government will install Smart Prepaid Electricity Meters in every house of the state by March 31, 2023.

“In the coming years, consumers will have recharge options according to their consumption. They will also be able to recharge electricity meter like mobile on one click,” minister added.

He directed the officers to prepare action plan and implement it in a phased manner to promote technology in everyday services of consumer services and corporation.

Sharma informed that using technology is the best medium for a corruption-free transparent system. Therefore, the use of technology should be encouraged in all tasks.
