UP: State Election Commission kicks off assembly polls preparations

Lucknow, 01 November: Voter list revision drive has started in Uttar Pradesh from November 1.

Speaking at the program organized at Lucknow University, State Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said that we are citizens of the world’s largest democracy. We are all proud of this. It is necessary for democracy that the electoral roll should be completely clean and healthy. For this, it is also necessary to have an informed voter. For voting it is necessary that there should be free, fair and peaceful voting, this is also the intention of the Election Commission of India (ECI). Also, be special in the choice. All sections including women, disabled, elderly and youth should participate in this great festival.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that voters get in touch with the Election Commission only twice. When they become voters and second time when they go to cast their votes. As the voting percentage increases, the glory of voting increases. Our democracy is strengthened.

He said that the Commission has fixed January 1, 2022 as the qualifying date for becoming a voter by considering it as Aadhaar.

Shukla informed said that those who fill Form-06 to become a voter for the first time and change place, fill Form-8A for change of name, fill Form-8 to rectify any error in the voter ID card, for non-resident Indians. For Indian citizens living abroad, Form-6A has to be filled. Fill Form-7 for deletion of name. Similarly, voters themselves can also become voters through online medium by uploading the required documents on the Voter Helpline and Portal. Ajay Kumar Shukla said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will also be present at each booth level to fill the offline form. Along with this, forms can also be filled at the district level through District Election Officers, Deputy District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers.

He said that special dates have been fixed for the revision of electoral rolls. At present, the date for receiving claims and objections is from November 1 to November 30. It can be extended further. The final publication of electoral rolls in the state will be held on January 5, 2022. All voters can also know whether their name is there through the portal or not.

Lucknow University Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Alok Kumar Rai said on the occasion that this is the first time for Lucknow University that such a program has been held. There will be three benefits from this program, students here will get positive benefits and will provide them an opportunity to move ahead in their life.

Addressing the program, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Brahmdev Ram Tiwari said that the voters who are turning 18 years or more on January 01, 2022, they must register themselves. Voter lists are being published in all the ROs, AROs, District Election Officers, registration offices of the state.
