Gorakhpur, 27 January: Deepak Ranga, the main shooter of the Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) attack on the headquarters of the Intelligence Department of Punjab Police in Mohali on May 9, 2022, has been arrested by the NIA.

Ranga, a close aide of Canada-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa and Harvinder Singh Rinda, who took refuge in Pakistan, has been arrested from Gorakhpur district.

It is alleged that he was trying to escape from Gorakhpur to Nepal via Sonauli border. The NIA says that the Gorakhpur police were not informed about this. After the information of the arrest, the police became active and started investigating.

Cases of several violent crimes, including murder, besides his involvement in the RPG attack are against Ranga, a resident of Surakpur village in Jhajjar, Haryana.

It is notable that the NIA had registered the case on its own on September 20 last year.

The facts had come to the fore that terrorist organizations from abroad and organized criminal gangs in the northern states of the country were working together to carry out target killings and violent criminal incidents.

It is also revealed that terrorists, gangsters and drug smugglers are smuggling arms, explosives and IEDs etc. from across the border. NIA is claiming to have arrested Ranga from Gorakhpur, however, police sources say he has been arrested from Nepal. Ranga was absconding after the RPG attack. The NIA said that Ranga was actively receiving arms and financial support from Rinda and Landa.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Gaurav Grover said that the NIA has not given any information regarding the operation to the Gorakhpur Police. There is no information about wherefrom Deepak Ranga was caught from Gorakhpur.
