Bijnor, 24 March: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor arrested one individual and detained three minors in connection with a viral video of a group of Holi revellers harassing a Muslim man and two ladies.

In a video, a man and two women ride a bike surrounded by a group of young people. Holi revelers are seen splashing water on the women with a pipe. The ladies protest, but the harassment continues. Soon after, buckets are used to dump water on the women. The young people forcefully apply colour to the man’s and one of the women’s faces. As the ladies object, a voice declares, “This is a 70-year-old tradition.”

Eventually, the trio’s nightmare ends, and the revelers let them go, chanting religious chants as the bike races away. Soon after the video went viral, Bijnor police chief Neeraj Kumar Jadaun directed local police to take action. An investigation revealed that the event occurred near the Dhampur police station. Cops reviewed viral videos to identify people involved.

The lawsuit was filed under many provisions, including those connected to unlawful restraint, willfully inflicting harm, and attacking a lady. Police have arrested one individual, Aniruddh, and detained three minors in connection with this case. In a video message uploaded on X by Bijnor police, senior officer Neeraj Jadaun stated that people should not harass anybody during Holi. Please do not force individuals to wear certain hues. Police will take action against anyone who violates the law, he added.
