UP assembly polls 2022: Nomination for 59 seats to begin tomorrow (Jan 25)

Lucknow, January 24: For the third phase of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the nomination papers for 59 seats in 16 districts will start from Tuesday (January 25). Polling for this phase is on February 20.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Election Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said on Monday that the process of election has started for free, fair, inclusive, peaceful and safe voting in the state. A notification will be issued on January 25 (Tuesday) for the third phase of voting for the UP assembly elections. Along with this, nomination papers for 59 assembly seats in 16 districts of third phase – Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba. The admission process will start. In the third phase of the 59 assembly seats, 15 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that according to the voter list published on January 05, there are a total of 2,15,75,430 voters in the third phase. This includes 1, 16, 12,010 male voters, 99, 62,324 female voters and 1,096 third gender voters. The polling time has been fixed by the Election Commission of India from 07 AM to 06 PM. As per the announced election schedule, the last date for the third phase of nominations is February 01 (Tuesday). Scrutiny of nominations will be done on 02 February and last date for withdrawal of nominations is 04 February. The third phase of polling will be held on February 20. The counting of votes for all the seven phases of the elections will be held simultaneously on March 10.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the candidates can submit their online application through the facilitation web portal suvidha-eci-gov-in and submit the copy of the application form before the Returning Officer. No candidate will be allowed to procession at the time of nomination in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
