Prayagraj, January 24: The Allahabad High Court, while granting bail to the accused lodged in jail on the charges of honour killing, has made a serious comment on the caste system still dominating the society even after 75 years of independent India.

The court said that the caste system has taken deep roots in the society. People brag about being in an educated society, but they are living a double standard of living.

The High Court further said that even after 75 years of independence, we have not been able to come out of this social evil.

This order has been given by Justice Rahul Chaturvedi while granting bail to the accused Sunny Singh in the honour killing case. The petitioner has been made an accused in the honour killing case of Anees Kumar.

According to the case, the younger brother of the complainant, Anees Kumar, belonged to a Scheduled Caste (SC). He was a village panchayat officer. He was murdered in broad daylight on September 15, 2021 by a group of 17 men under a conspiracy. It is said that his mistake was so much that during the training he became intimate with the girl who was training with him and he married her with her consent. The family members of the girl were unhappy with this marriage, due to which he was murdered in broad daylight after a conspiracy.

The counsel for the petitioner said that the bail has been granted to the accused who is close and blood related to the girl. The petitioner is neither related to the girl nor has any hand in causing this offence. Even the girl has not said anything about the petitioner in her statement under 161 Code of Criminal Procedure. Considering the above facts, the court has granted bail to the petitioner.
