Lucknow, 3 Feb: The second day of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s Budget session was deferred on Saturday for the day following obituary references to sitting and retired members. Sitting members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly were honoured, including Manvendra Singh of the BJP from Shahjahanpur district and Dr Shiv Pratap Yadav of the Samajwadi Party from Balrampur district. Singh went dead on January 5, while Yadav died on January 26.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the deaths of two serving members and six past members. “The loss of Manvendra Singh is heartbreaking for all of us. He has served as an MLA twice. He was involved in politics from his school days and was committed to the development of his community. “He had worked for the betterment of all sections of society,” he stated.

Adityanath went on to say, “The deaths of senior members are sad for the House. His vacuum will always exist in the House.” While paying respect to Yadav, the chief minister stated, “All of us are saddened by his death. He has done great job to expand education in remote places. With his death, the state has lost a capable politician. He worked tirelessly to improve his community. He also paid respect to former members Mobin Ahmad Azmi, Satish Chandra, Jata Shankar Singh, Mohammad Irshad Khan, Jagdish Gandhi, and Suresh Sangal. Speaking on the occasion, Manoj Kumar Pandey of the Samajwadi Party stated that Singh’s death had cost the state an excellent politician.

After Yadav died, Pandey commented, “His void will always remain among us.” The leaders of Apna Dal (S), RLD, SBSP, Congress, and Jansatta Dal all paid respect to the deceased.

Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana remarked that Singh’s death has left the state without an able politician and social worker. The House then stood in silence for a moment to pay honor to the fallen spirits. Singh, a BJP MLA from Dadraul in the Shahjahanpur district, died in Delhi on January 5 after a protracted illness. He was seventy. Singh was elected MLA from Dadraul for the second time in 2022. He had been suffering from hepatic problems.

Singh, who had previously served in the Congress, joined the BJP in 2017 and was elected MLA from Dadraul. He retained his seat in the 2022 elections. On January 26, Yadav, a Samajwadi Party leader and incumbent MLA from the Gainsari Assembly seat in Balrampur district, died at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. He was 74. Yadav began his political career with Lok Dal and was a four-time MLA from the Gainsari Assembly seat.
