UNGA President arrives in New Delhi on 3-day visit

New Delhi, 29 January: United Nations General Assembly President Csaba Korosi arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on a three-day visit for his first bilateral visit to any country after assuming office in September last year.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi informed and said that the visit would provide an opportunity to exchange views on global challenges currently facing the United Nations.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Korosi will be a part of the ‘Beating the Retreat Ceremony’ in New Delhi on Sunday and will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary at January 30, at Rajghat.

President of the United Nations General Assembly will meet Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar. The talks are expected to continue discussions on the topics raised in their last meeting in December. They include the ongoing priorities of the General Assembly and India’s partnership with the United Nations Organization.

General Assembly President Korosi will visit the G20 Secretariat in India and meet a delegation led by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, whose agenda is expected to include these priorities. Korosi, among his other public appearances in New Delhi, will deliver a public speech at the Indian Council of World Affairs on his priorities for the current General Assembly session: Solidarity, Sustainability and Solutions through Science.

The General Assembly President will discuss India’s water conservation projects with senior officials and experts from the National Institute for Transformation India. It is also known as Niti Aayog. The primary responsibility of NITI Aayog is to implement and coordinate the efforts of the Sustainable Development Goals in India.

The UNGA President will also attend programs in Bengaluru, where he is expected to visit a water project site. While in the city, he will also interact with national scientists and academicians at the Indian Institute of Science. Korosi will also meet the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, Shamby Sharp. The delegation accompanying Korosi includes his cabinet chief L?szl? Szoke, chief scientific adviser Johannes Kallmann and two senior aides from the office.
