New Delhi, 17 November: The Yamuna River in the national capital Delhi is covered in a thick blanket of foam. This sheet seems to be testing the patience of the devotees of the Chhath festival. The situation is that after Okhla Barrage, the water of Yamuna becomes visible.

According to the report of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the length of the Yamuna River is about 1,370 kilometres. Out of this, the length from Palla to Kalindi Kunj is 54 kilometres. The distance from Wazirabad to Kalindi Kunj is 22 kilometers. This is only two percent of the entire length of Yamuna. What is important is that about 76 percent of the pollution in Yamuna occurs in this part. Apart from the monsoon, there is no fresh water in the river in the remaining nine months of the year.

Delhi government minister Atishi said that work is underway to clear the foam on the Yamuna River with the help of chemicals. It was sprayed on Thursday. This will clear the water in a day or two.
