Strike of electricity department employees ends, privatization decision postponed

Lucknow, October 06: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh deferred the proposal of privatization of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) till January 15 2021.  

After this decision of the government, the power employees have withdrawn their indefinite strike.

According to the state government spokesperson, in a meeting held between senior officials of the power department on Tuesday till evening, it was decided to postpone the proposal of privatization of power system by January 15, 2021.

Power workers were on strike since Monday against privatization. Due to the strike, the power supply system in the state had collapsed. There was utter chaos all around.

On Monday, the power supply of many ministers and MLAs’ houses was disrupted in the capital.

Seeing the situation worsening, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday held a meeting on the issue with several ministers and senior officials, including the Power Minister. After this, the officials of the government, after meeting with the officials of the power department, decided to postpone the proposal of privatization till 15 January 2021.

After this decision of the government, various organizations of power workers have withdrawn the indefinite strike.
