Sharing of ideas by sitting together is the biggest strength of democracy: PM Modi

New Delhi, June 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after meeting the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday that the biggest strength of India’s democracy is that we can sit at a table and exchange views.

In connection with the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said through several tweets that he had discussed with the leaders of the state that the people of the state, especially the youth, have to be given political leadership, which can fulfill their aspirations.

He said that strengthening democracy at the grassroots level in Jammu and Kashmir is our priority. We want the delimitation of constituencies to be done soon so that an elected government can be established there so that such a government that can take the development activities forward rapidly.

The Prime Minister said that today’s meeting is a big step towards making Jammu and Kashmir a developed and progressive one. This is a step towards ensuring all round development of the state.

At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has tweeted that in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all the leaders expressed their commitment to democracy and the Constitution.

Shah said that the meeting with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in a cordial atmosphere and the leaders emphasized on strengthening the democratic process in the state.

He said that the upcoming road-map of Jammu and Kashmir was discussed in the meeting. Discussions took place on the process of delimitation of assembly constituencies and the goal of restoring full statehood through peaceful elections. Shah said that Parliament has given assurance of giving full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that the Prime Minister listened to everyone seriously. He sought everyone’s cooperation to activate democracy at the grassroots level and speed up development activities.
