Lucknow, June 30: The Lucknow Police arrested Shahnawaz Alam, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Minority Cell, late on Monday night in connection with the creating violent riots on December 19, 2019 in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Citizenship Register (NRC).

Hazratganj police has arrested Congress leader and Uttar Pradesh Congress Minority Cell chairman Shahnawaz Alam in front of Golf Links apartment near the Chief Minister’s residence at Kalidas Marg.

However, this incident has been captured in CCTV. At the same time, Congress state president Ajay Singh Lallu and MLA Ardhana Mishra reached at the incident site. In this case, there was news that the police used light force to stop the ruckus of the Congress party.

It may be noted that during the protests called by various organizations against the implementation of CAA and NRC, violence was unleashed in Lucknow as planned.

During this violence and disturbance, public property worth about five crore rupees was set on fire in the capital.

In the violence, miscreants in four police station areas Hazratganj, Kaiserbagh, Thakurganj and Hasanganj had vandalized and set on fire around 35 vehicles. However, the administration is taking recovery action in this matter.
