New Delhi, October 5: The beautiful north-eastern state of Sikkim is suffering from natural disasters. The sequence of devastation that started due to severe flood in the area after the cloud burst at midnight on Tuesday has not stopped.
Till Thursday morning, 14 people have been confirmed dead in the accident. More than a hundred people, including 23 army personnel, are still missing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Chief Minister of the state and assured all possible help. NDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations in the area.
Amidst the massive devastation in Sikkim, the rescue operations of the Central Government have intensified. BRO’s Project Swastik has evacuated more than 200 people to safe areas in the severely affected Chungthang and Mangan areas of North Sikkim in coordination with the state administration.
More than three thousand tourists are stranded in different parts of the state due to collapsed roads and buildings. However, we are still waiting for the weather to clear up to start rescue operations on a large scale.

There was a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim between Tuesday midnight and Wednesday morning, leading to massive flooding in the Teesta river.
Due to this, houses, buildings and other buildings built on the banks of Teesta river collapsed. 14 bridges were destroyed in the flood. 23 army personnel living in a temporary camp on the banks of the river were also washed away in the flood and have not been traced yet.
The exact number of people missing after the accident can only be estimated.
