Moscow, 30 August: Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has skipped the BRICS summit in South Africa this month and the G-20 summit in India next month, will visit China in October this year. Putin has agreed to go to China for his first foreign trip this year.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has only traveled to former Soviet Union countries and Iran. Putin visited China in March 2022, early in the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year.

After this, he has not traveled outside Russia this year. Putin has not crossed the international border since the issuance of the warrant by the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

In March, the Hague-based International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Putin in view of the situation in Ukraine. The court had declared Putin guilty of illegal population transfer into the occupied territory of Ukraine.

Now Putin has agreed to make his first foreign visit to China in October. Putin will travel to China for this year’s Belt and Road Forum.

After accepting the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russia has started preparations for President Putin’s visit to China. Earlier this month, President Putin had also not attended the BRICS summit held in South Africa.

He sent the Russian Foreign Minister there and himself addressed the summit online. Putin has also distanced himself from the G-20 summit to be held in New Delhi next month. It was told that Putin will travel only to those countries where his security is completely guaranteed and China is one of those countries.
