Purvanchal home to five governors

Lucknow, 12 Feb: Purvanchal is the richest state in terms of sending Governors. With new appointments of Governor on Sunday, the country now has five Governors, all of whom are from Purvanchal-eastern Uttar Pradesh. Phagu Chauhan, the Governor who has been transferred from Bihar to Meghalaya, is from Azamgarh in Purvanchal.

Manoj Sinha, LG of Jammu and Kashmir is from Ghazipur. Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra is also a Ghazipur native who served in four BJP governments in the state. Shiv Pratap Shukla, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, comes from Gorakhpur and has previously served as a minister in Uttar Pradesh as well as a national cabinet member. Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Governor of Sikkim, is from Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary seat.
