Mumbai, 31 December: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s longest sea bridge Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) on January 12. This announcement was made by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday.

Chief Minister Shinde told reporters on Sunday that the MTHL project is 22 km long, which is considered to be India’s longest and 12th longest sea bridge in the world. This marvel of engineering will start from Shivri in South Mumbai, cross Thane Creek and end at Chirle on the remote outskirts of Navi Mumbai.

He apprised this bridge is being built since 2018. Originally expected to be completed in 4.5 years, the infrastructure project has been delayed by eight months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shinde told that Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) is expected to supply 70 thousand vehicles per day. Motorists can cross the bridge at a speed of 100 km per hour. Built at a cost of Rs 17,843 crore, the six-lane bridge is one of the most expensive projects.

According to CM Shinde, this will help the citizens to cover a distance of 22 km in 15 minutes, whereas currently it takes about two hours to cover the same distance.
