New Delhi, March 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a high-level review meeting on the country’s energy security amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. The meeting comprehensively assessed the supply situation of petroleum, crude oil, natural gas, electricity, and fertilizers.
During the meeting, the government clarified that ensuring the availability of essential energy resources across the country is a top priority. Officials were instructed to maintain uninterrupted supply, robust logistics, and an efficient distribution system at all costs, so that the general public is not affected.
Several senior ministers and officials from the energy, petroleum, and fertilizer sectors, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, attended the high-level meeting. The meeting was conducted under an “all-of-government approach” to ensure that all departments work in coordination.
Following the meeting, Piyush Goyal stated that India currently has sufficient reserves of crude oil and fuel. He assured that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, and gas in the country, and that the government is closely monitoring global conditions. Alternative supply arrangements will be ensured if necessary.
The government’s primary focus is on two things: first, maintaining the uninterrupted availability of energy resources in the country, and second, preventing the impact of the global crisis from reaching ordinary consumers. All efforts are being made to ensure that the public does not face any difficulties.
This meeting is considered significant in light of the current global situation, where India is taking every possible step to secure its energy needs.
It is noteworthy that the ongoing conflict in West Asia is impacting global energy supplies. Sea routes around Iran have been particularly affected, increasing pressure on international trade and the energy supply chain. This is also partially affecting India’s gas supply.
