Bhubaneswar, 03 June: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers, as usual, were the first to reach the spot after the tragic train accident that took place near Bahanaga railway station in Balasore district.

The volunteers had reached there before the administration teams reached the spot, i.e., by 7.30 p.m. Due to the existence of a Sangh branch in the village near the accident site, a small number of volunteers reached it in the beginning itself. But until night, about 250 volunteers helped the soldiers engage in administration and relief work at the accident site.

Sangh’s Prant Prachar Pramukh Ravi Narayan Panda said that the volunteers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, along with the personnel of various agencies engaged in administration and rescue operations, helped in evacuating the injured passengers trapped in the accident. Sangh’s co-department campaigner, Vishnu Nayak, was present at the accident site.

RSS volunteers engaged in the work of evacuating the injured passengers and making them sit in ambulances. After the injured passengers were taken to the hospital, Baleshwar Vibhag Pracharak Chandrashekhar Mohapatra was present at the district headquarters hospital in Baleshwar and supervised the service work there.

Apart from donating blood themselves, these volunteers also got people to donate blood for the injured passengers.

Similarly, some injured passengers were taken to the Bhadrak district headquarter hospital and medical facility at Soro. In the Bhadrak district headquarters hospital, the workers of Hindu Jagran Manch continued to help the injured throughout the night and till then. In Soro Medical, too, 40 volunteers of the Sangh took charge. In these hospitals too, volunteers donated blood and made arrangements for blood. Along with contacting the relatives of the injured, they engaged in the work of informing them.

On Saturday morning, volunteers were engaged in helping the relatives of the passengers who lost their lives in the accident.

Similarly, at the SCB Medical College and Hospital of Cuttack, the volunteers associated with the service department of the Sangh remained active. Sangh’s regional service chief Jagdish Khadanga and state service chief Shantanu Majhi were also present at the accident site, and this work was done under their direct supervision.

A helpline has also been started by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Similarly, the workers of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad were also engaged in the work of blood donation.
