New electric buses to run on old fare in 14 cities of UP

Lucknow. 20 July: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is going to operate electric buses in 14 cities to reduce the increasing pollution and improve the environment. In order to provide comfortable and cheap travel facility to the people of the state, the fare of these buses has been kept at par with ordinary buses.

This was announced by Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon in the capital on Tuesday.

In the program organized at 1090 crossroads, he said that the government is making rapid efforts to modernize the urban transport services and provide convenient travel to the passengers. The government plans to operate 700 electric buses in 14 other major cities of the state including Lucknow.

โ€œFor this, the work is being completed at a fast pace by the officials of the Directorate of Urban Transport. Trial of these buses has been started for one month in Lucknow. Ajit Singh, Joint Secretary, Directorate of Urban Development said that the operation of electric buses would be started soon after the proposal was passed in the meeting of the Divisional Commissioner,โ€ he added.

UP will be the first state to operate such a large number of electric buses as compared to other states. 965 crore has been spent in the plan of operation of electric buses by the state government. These buses will be air conditioned, comfortable and free from noise and air pollution.

Electric buses will ply in these 14 cities of the state: – 100-100 in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, 50-50 in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura-Vrindavan, Shahjahanpur, Jhansi, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Aligarh and Bareilly. 25-25 electric buses will be operated
