Mumbai Police to cooperate with ED in investigation of TRP scam, assures Anil Deshmukh

Mumbai, November 21: The Home Minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is about to start an investigation into matters related to economic transaction in the Television Rating Point (TRP) scam. The Maharashtra Police will extend all possible assistance to the ED in this matter.

Anil Deshmukh told reporters on Saturday that a case has been registered in the TRP scam against 3 TV channels including Hansa Research Agency in month of October. The Mumbai Police is investigating this case in a very professional manner. Many accused in the case have been arrested.

โ€œThere have also been indications of economic transaction and money laundering in the TRP scam case. For this reason, the ED has also registered a case to investigate the matter with money laundering angle,โ€ Deshmukh added.  

He further said that the role of the state government is to investigate the case thoroughly and punish the accused. Therefore, the Maharashtra Police will extend all possible assistance to the ED in the investigation.

Anil Deshmukh said that the state government had decided to seek permission for any investigation into the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Maharashtra. This decision of the state government has also been welcomed by the Supreme Court.
