Modi files nomination paper in Varanasi amid show of strength with NDA allies

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination paper on Friday to fight Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi seat from where he fought his first general election in 2014 and won it with huge margin of 3.37 lakh votes by defeating Aam Adami Party convenor Arvind Kejariwal. While Arvind Kejariwal came second and Ajay Rai, who is a Congress Party candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha election again, came third.

PM Modi, before filing nomination papers on Friday at DM office, also paid visit to Kal Bhairav temple to offer prayers.

Modi reached district magistrate [DM] office around 1 pm with NDA allies inlcuding Udhav Thakeray of Shiv Sena, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan, Prakash Singh Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal [SAD]. While Modi touched the feet of SAD patron Prakash Singh Badal to seek blessings.

Top BJP leaders including BJP chief Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Union Ministers inluding Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari were also present in the nomination process of Modi.

Those who proposed the name of Narendra Modi were former prinipal of Banaras Hindu University’s women college Annapurna Shukla, ‘Dom Raja’ or chief cremator Jagdish Chowdhary, long time BJP worker Jagdish Sharma and agricultural scientist Ram Shankar Patel.

PM Modi here also touched the feet of the former principal of women college of BHU Annapurna Shukla to seek blessings before submitting his nomination papers.

Before filing his nomination paper on Friday, Mr Modi held a grand road show on Thursday. Modi started his road show, after paying tribute to Bharat Ratna and founder of BHU, Madan Mohan Malviya, from Lanka to famous Dashashwamedha Ghat via Godolia. He also performed Ganga Aaarti at Dashashwamedha Ghat after the road show.

Voting will be on May 19 in the last phase in Varanasi and the results for the Lok Sabha seats will be declared on May 23.
