Mathura, July 19: The sanitation worker in Mathura who was sacked after images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were found in his garbage cart has been reinstated after he apologised, according to civic body authorities on Tuesday.

Officials said Bobby received his reinstatement letter Monday evening and will resume his duties soon. Bobby, 40, was reinstated after apologising to the municipal commissioner, according to Dr Karim Akhtar Qureshi, the Nagar Swasthya Adhikari.

Bobby said, “On Saturday, when I was at work, three individuals approached me outside Subhash Inter College and inquired why the CM and PM’s images were in my garbage cart. I told the men that I was simply performing my job, which was to clean up waste,” he added.

According to the worker, he was summoned to the local body office after finishing his morning shift to explain what had occurred.

“I informed the authorities that I was merely performing my job, which was to collect rubbish from Ward-19. I filed an appeal with the commissioner on Monday, explaining that my acts were not malicious and apologising for them. I got fired on Saturday. Because Sunday was a holiday, I could only file my appeal on Monday,” he explained. Bobby has been a sanitation worker for the past two decades, working morning and afternoon shifts.

“Bobby had submitted an appeal in which he apologised for his conduct, pledged that he would not repeat them, and stated that he would continue to work with sincerity and honesty. He also indicated that he is the sole earner for his family, and he was restored on that basis,” Qureshi added.

Officers say Bobby was served with a show cause notice on Saturday and was requested to provide an explanation, which he did the same day.
