Kolkata, 29 May: Renewing her usual political activities once again after a lull of nearly two months because of Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will sit in a dharna at strife torn Naihari in North 24 Pargas district tomorrow to ensure the return of about 500 affected families to their homes following a week long disturbances and political violence in the area in which over 20 people were also injured.

Trinamool Congress sources told here today that  about 500 families in Naihari and the adjoining areas of  Bhatpara, Kanchrapara and Jagaddal police stations, had to leave their houses in fear of attacks on them and their houses in the wake of large scale violence and arson in those areas since the results of Lok Sabha elections were out on 23 May. About 23 people had so far been injured in those attacks and violence.

Blaming the supporters of newly elected MP from the local Barrackpore constituency Arjun Singh as allegedly behind such threats and attacks, hundreds of people of these localities had to leave and stay outside for about a week now. Despite appealing to the district police,no action was taken so far to ensure the return of these affected families to their homes, the party sources claimed.

But today after cancelling her visit to New Delhi to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing in ceremony at Rastrapati Bhavan, in protest against BJP’s decision to present family members of 54 murdered BJP workers there, Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with her senior party colleagues including City Mayor Firhad Hakim and Chairman of Naihati Municipality Ashok Chatterjee here this afternoon before deciding to sit in an indefinite Dharna with Hakim and other leaders at Naihati tomorrow near the local Municipal office to press for the demand for immediate return of all affected families.

Meanwhile, BJP has described the Chief Minister’s decision to sit in yet another dharna after the one in front of former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajive Kumar’s residence as ‘Drama’ and questioned the actual number of those affected in violence besides claiming that most of them belonged to BJP and not TMC.
