Mahant death case: Anand Giri pleads ‘innocent’ during police interrogation

Prayagraj, 22 September: Anand Giri and Aadya Tiwari, priest of Bade Hanuman Mandir, have been sent to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad President Mahant Narendra Giri under suspicious circumstances.

As per the wishes of the Mahant, his mortal remains were buried under a lemon tree in the Baghambari Math complex on Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday, the body of Mahant Narendra Giri was found hanging from the noose at Baghambri Math located in Prayagraj district. The Police investigated the matter and arrested three persons on the basis of suicide note recovered from the spot.

In the eight-page suicide note, Anand Giri was blamed for his death, Aadya Tiwari, priest of the Bade Hanuman temple, and his son Sandeep. The police had brought Anand to Prayagraj after arresting him from Haridwar, while Aadya Tiwari and her son Sandeep had already been taken into custody. He was also arrested after interrogation.

On Wednesday, Anand Giri and Aadya Tiwari were produced before the court, where they have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. However, the police are not giving any information about Sandeep.

Anand Giri, who was arrested in the murder case of Mahant Narendra Giri, was interrogated for several hours. He was questioned by police officers in turn, but he has pleaded innocent. He said that he is being deliberately implicated. He is ready to cooperate with the police investigation.
