Lucknow, February 27: The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday directed the state government to fill the vacancy of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) in Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission as soon as possible in a petition filed by activist Nutan Thakur.

This order was given by a bench of Justices Pankaj Kumar Jaiswal and Justice Karunesh Singh Pawar after hearing the Nutan and government advocates. Nutan said in her petition that the post of Chief Information Commissioner has been vacant since the retirement of Javed Usmani on 16 February 2020.

She said that the state government is also not following the instructions given by the Supreme Court in the Anjali Bhardwaj case. Neither the names of the candidates have been put on the department’s website nor the process has been made transparent.

On this, the High Court directed the state government to fill the vacancy as soon as possible after fully following the instructions given by the Supreme Court.
