Lucknow doctor duped by fraudsters of Rs 1.75 cr

Lucknow, 11 Nov: Two individuals reportedly defrauded a doctor of Rs 1.75 crore under the guise of arranging land for a hospital in the Barabanki district and threatened his employees with severe repercussions when the victim demanded the return of money.

Following the intervention of a local court, the police filed a FIR under the proper provisions.

Sanjay Kumar Shahi of Gorakhpur and Om Prakash Singh of Bahraich were arrested on suspicion of deception, criminal breach of trust, and criminal intimidation. Dr. Virendra Singh Patel, the complainant, accused them of Rs. 1.75 crore fraud under the guise of offering around 19 bighas of land on Dewa road.

According to Sanjay Maurya, inspector in-charge of Kotwali City in Barabanki, the duo never gave the land nor refunded the money, and when requested to return the money, they threatened the doctor.

The complainant, who manages Aastha Hospital in front of Anand Bhawan in Barabanki, stated that he needed property to build his new hospital and institute, and that the two accused approached him in July 2019 and guaranteed him of land on Dewa road. He stated that the price for the 19 bigha land was established at Rs. 1.90 crore, and that Rs. 1.75 crore was paid to the duo via online money transfer and advance cheques.

Patel said that the sale was postponed owing to the epidemic, and that the two accused continued to postpone it until August 2022, when he requested his money returned. His complaint was registered by the local police, and he then went to court to get the FIR registered. The cops filed the FIR when the judge ordered them to do so.
