Lucknow, 25 October: A female doctor has been booked with threatening and vandalising Diwali vendors’ shops. Dr Anju Gupta was booked by the Gomti Nagar police under sections 427 and 504 of the CrPC after a video of her breaking earthen diyas and clay toys for sale on Diwali with a cricket bat and a wiper went viral on social media.

The vendors, according to the doctor, had been setting up their stalls right outside her gate, and when she objected, they argued with her. She claimed that the shops were causing significant traffic congestion in the area.

Dinesh Chandra Pandey, a Gomti Nagar Police inspector, stated that the case was filed on the complaint of Zubair, Rubina, and Shamshad, whose businesses were damaged in the incident.
