LS Polls: BJP bags first seat from Surat, Mukesh Dalal wins unopposed

Surat, 22 April: In the Lok Sabha elections-2024, BJP has got its first seat from Surat. BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal has created history by winning unopposed from Surat Lok Sabha seat. On the last day of withdrawal of nominations, out of total nine valid nominations, eight have withdrawn their candidature. Earlier on Sunday, nominations of Congress candidates Nilesh Kumbhani and Suresh Padsala were canceled.

For the first time, in the 17 Lok Sabha elections held in the country from 1951 to 2019, a candidate has been declared victorious unopposed. In this way, BJP has got its first seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Surat. Nominations of 9 people including BJP’s Mukesh Dalal were declared valid for Surat Lok Sabha seat.

On Monday, the last day of withdrawal of names, all the 8 candidates except Mukesh Dalal withdrew their names. Its official announcement will be made by the election officer by evening. On Monday morning, Abdul Hameed Khan of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Party, Jayesh Mewada of Global Republican Party, Sohail Shaikh of Log Party, Independent Ajit Umat, Independent Kishore Dayani, Independent Ramesh Bhai Baraiya and Independent Bharatbhai Prajapati withdrew their names.

Pyarelal Bharti of Bahujan Samaj Party was the last to withdraw his name. Earlier, his party had written a letter to the Police Commissioner demanding security. He alleged that his party’s candidate was being threatened by calls from unknown numbers. However, later he also withdrew his name.
