Mumbai, August 13: Cyrus Poonawalla, President of the anti-corona vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII), claimed that if the death toll of corona patients is low, there is no need for a lockdown. Lockdown is needed when over 50-60 percent of the deaths occur.

He said that most of the deaths due to corona virus infection were due to delay in reaching the patients to the hospital.

Cyrus Poonawalla was honoured with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award in a program organized at Lokmanya Tilak Vidyapeeth in Pune on Friday. The program was organized by Lokmanya Tilak Nyas.

On this occasion, Cyrus Poonawalla said that earlier people were not going to the hospital for treatment of corona. Many people of the society had protested for taking anti-corona vaccine, but now some political party leaders are also claiming that all people have been vaccinated against corona by December, which is impossible.

He said that the anti-Covid-19 vaccine is still being made very little, while its demand is high. There is a massive demand for it abroad, but they are not in favour of earning money by selling corona vaccine. Keeping in mind the interest of the country, he has invested crores of rupees to make an anti-corona vaccine.

Poonawalla said that he had written a letter to the Central Government seeking permission to give additional corona vaccine to the cities of Pune and Mumbai, but till now the permission has not been received.

He said that he is not in favour of cocktail vaccine. If the reason for this is not getting the result or its opposite result, then the blame will increase. This will affect the credibility of companies making anti-corona vaccine.
