Lockdown Day 19: Wear mask in Ahmedabad or face Rs 5000 fine or 3 years imprisonment

Ahmedabad, April 12: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made it mandatory for all individuals to wear mask while going out to public places or elsewhere. Those who defy the orders will now be fined five thousand rupees. This order of the AMC will be applicable at 6 am onward from April 13.

While, the Corporation has issued a notification on Sunday in which it said that from April 13 from 6 am, making it mandatory for people to wear mask while leaving home for markets or any other public places in Ahmedabad. If a person is seen venturing out  without a mask in the city, he or she will be fined five thousand rupees, and a case will be registered in case if he or she fails to pay fine. In this case the person can be jailed for three years.

Corporation Commissioner of Ahmedabad Vijay Nehra said on Sunday that on Sunday the report of corona test of 23 people in the city has come positive. As of yesterday evening, 243 cases were reported in Ahmedabad. So far, samples of 5379 people have been collected. However, 628 samples from slums and all crowded areas have been collected.  

He said that after declaring the old Ahmedabad zone as a โ€˜buffer zoneโ€™, 24000 people were tested with thermal guns in 24 hours, out of which 56 suspects have been admitted to the hospital.

He said that the situation in Ahmedabad is under control.

โ€œIf the health department team arrives at your home for tests and samples please do cooperate with them,โ€ Nehra urged.
