Azamgarh, 9 Au: In Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) apprehended an ISIS suspect who was preparing an assault on Independence Day. He was identified as Sabauddin Azmi and had direct touch with an ISIS recruiter.

In addition, the ATS found IED-making materials in the suspect’s possession. They also seized illegal guns and ammunition. He is currently being questioned at the ATS headquarters. The team inspected his phone and came across proof of his involvement with Al-Saqr media, a Telegram channel formed by the outlawed terrorist organisation, ISIS. The accused is now a member of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

With the sensitive nature of Independence Day in mind, the ATS is continually monitoring radical elements on the orders of the Director General of Police (DGP), UP and under the supervision of the additional DGP, Law and Order.

According to the report, he met Bilal on Facebook. During their talk, Bilal handed Sabauddin Azmi the phone number of Musa alias Khattab Kashmiri, a member of ISIS. Then Azmi met with other members of the terror group, and they decided to avenge the Mujahids’ deaths. In addition, he was being taught how to construct hand grenades, explosives, and IEDs.
