Ghaziabad, April 3: An unknown assailant opened fire at history-sheeter late Thursday night in front of a eatery in Sikri Kalan village, under the Modinagar police station area of the Ghaziabad. He was shot four times. The criminal drove himself to the hospital for 30 minutes. He is undergoing treatment at the hospital. His condition remains critical, police told.
The Additional Police Commissioner (ACP) Law and Order Rajkaran Nayyar stated that Rahul, alias Kalu, a resident of Begumabad village in Modinagar, is a history-sheeter. He stopped to meet someone at the Swagat Hotel in Sikri Kalan village. He began talking to a man already present at the dhaba. The man he was talking to fired four shots at him, hitting him in the shoulder, stomach, and chest. After being shot, Rahul drove himself to the hospital and was admitted by a doctor for treatment.
He said that upon receiving information from the hospital, police arrived at the scene and inquired about the injured. The doctor stated that Rahul had been hit by four bullets. Police arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation and examined CCTV footage from nearby areas. The case appears to be highly suspicious.
The Additional Police Commissioner stated that Rahul is a history-sheeter with the Modinagar police station. He has more than 12 cases pending against him under various sections. The investigation also revealed that he had filed a similar case with the Niwari police station last year, naming several individuals. He stated that the police are probing the case keeping all aspects in mind.
It is noteworthy that Rahul was jailed for the murder of his own brother. Five months after his release from bail, Modinagar police arrested him for demanding 15 lakh rupees in extortion from Ravi Balmiki, the son of a district panchayat member and district vice-president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal. He recently released on bail. Rahul is also currently active in social work. He is the district president of a farmers’ organization. The police are investigating the case, taking all aspects into consideration.
