Lucknow, 03 December: An unusually high-pitched campaign for bypolls to three seats in Uttar Pradesh including Mainpuri Lok Sabha and Rampur and Khatauli Assembly seats – seen as a battle of prestige for BJP and SP concluded on Saturday evening ahead of voting on December 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.

In Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, before the end of the election campaign, the leaders of BJP and SP put full force in the campaign. Now in the polling to be held on December 5, voters will decide the fate of six candidates contesting the elections. The by-election is being held on the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant after the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

On November 5, the Election Commission had issued a notification for this. Since then political parties became active in election campaign. After the nominations started from November 10, the SP nominated Dimple Yadav, while the BJP nominated Raghuraj Singh Shakya.

SP leader and former MLA Azam Khan campaigned for Samajwadi Party candidate Aseem Raza on Rampur seat. SP’s prestige is at stake in Mainpuri and Rampur seats. SP did not want to leave any stone unturned to win these two seats.

On Friday Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while appealing to the voters in the election rally of BJP candidate Akash Saxena said that BJP’s victory will be the guarantee of Rampur’s development. Targeting SP leader Azam Khan without naming him, he said that those who wanted to destroy the heritage of Rampur will get a lesson. Here the work of destroying the manuscripts took place.

Many other parties including Congress, BSP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have not fielded their candidates for the by-elections for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat and Rampur-Khatauli assembly seats.

The Congress had already announced that it would not field its candidates in the by-elections. At the same time, BSP has also not fielded a candidate in the by-election. The party high command was told to pay attention to the civic elections. In the event of participating in the by-election, the preparations for the civic elections could be affected. That’s why no one has been made a candidate here on the orders of the High Command.
