High-level meeting in the capital to ensure strict ‘lockdown’ in 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh amid COVID-19 cases surge

Both senior officers directed concerned authority to enforce lockdown strictly

Lucknow, March 23: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet on not taking the lockdown seriously, officials have also swung into action in Uttar Pradesh and a high-level review meeting at the government level is being held to assess the situation.

In such a situation, Additional Chief Secretary Home Awanish Kumar Awasthi reached the police headquarters (HQ) and held a meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Hitesh Chandra Awasthi to review the lockdown situation in the state.

After this, senior officers of government also came into action in Uttar Pradesh. The state’s home and police department have begun to strictly clamp the lockdown.

The 16 districts of the state have been declared lockdown, those districts are Lucknow, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Azamgarh, Agra, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Moradabad, Bareilly, Kanpur Nagar, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Aligarh, Saharanpur and Pilibhit .

In fact, in many places including the capital Lucknow, there was no seriousness among general public like public curfew on lockdown day. Many shops were opened at some place since morning. Many people were seen getting out of vehicles on the streets. Apart from this, tempo and e-rickshaws also were also seen ferrying in some parts of the city.

In such a situation, Additional Chief Secretary Home Awanish Kumar Awasthi reached the police headquarters and held a meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Hitesh Chandra Awasthi to review the lockdown.

However, Awasthi was taking reports of lockdown situations in districts with the DGP during review meeting.

According to sources, the District Magistrates (DM) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of the 16 districts where lockdown have been implemented asked public to strictly follow it. Instructions have been given to strictly deal with those who leave home for non-essential work.

In the capital Lucknow, the Commissioner of Police (CP) and District Magistrate with other officials were seen appealing to the public not to move out of homes unnecessary.

In many places, police personnel on barricading allowed only those people to go who have been given exemption by seeing ID cards.

District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash informed that in the city ten thousand and in rural areas about two and a half thousand cleaning workers are engaged in sanitation and cleaning work.

A team of 40 people has been formed to review sanitation work. Divisional Commissioner Mukesh Meshram advised that do not be afraid of novel corona virus pandemic rather stay home; avoid moving out of your homes when it not needed, so this well help to break the chain of infection.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also appealed to make the lockdown successful to protect the general public from the outbreak of COVID-19.

He urged to take the lockdown seriously. Stay indoors to protect yourself and save your family.

Yogi said that Uttar Pradesh also has to become a full participant in the country’s fight against the global pandemic Corona virus. That is why the decision has been taken of complete lockdown in 16 districts.

CM appealed to the people of the state to give their support for the healthy and secure future of 23 crore people of Uttra Pradesh.

He said by appealing to everyone to stay homes. Do not go outside unnecessarily and in public places. The administration, police and health department are working with utmost care for your service. People should follow instructions, rules and laws and work with the government in the fight against this epidemic. Stay alert, be aware.
