Gurugram: Prisoners to be able to make video calls to family members soon

Gurugram, 27 January: Prisoners lodged in Haryana jails will now be able to talk to their family members through video calls. They will get this facility for 10 minutes daily.

Kiran Bedi, Lt. Governor of Puducherry and Chairperson of India Vision Foundation, and Jail Minister of Haryana Ranjit Singh launched this facility through video conference in Bhondsi Jail, Gurugram.

Also, it was announced that this facility will be started in other jails of the state. Preparations are being done for this.

State Jail Minister Ranjit Singh said that audio and video calls will be available in the same machine. With the introduction of this facility, the number of people coming to meet in jail will also be reduced. In addition to the two mobile numbers of the relatives (members of the blood relation), only the registered mobile number of the lawyer will be able to talk.

During this period, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Rajiv Arora, Director General of Jail K K Selvaraj and Jail Superintendent of Bhondsi Harendra Singh and many jail officials and representatives of India Vision Foundation got connected through video conferencing.

However, until now the prisoner had to pay a rupee of one minute for the normal call. Now he will get this facility for 50 paise.

At the same time, for video calls, he will have to pay two and a half rupees per minute. A large part of the expenditure incurred in implementing this system has been given by the India Vision Foundation. Inmates and prisoners were allowed to talk to their family members or lawyers for five minutes daily. It has been increased to 10 minutes now.

Not only this, the prisoners who are poor and cannot give phone money, are also given relief. Such prisoners / prisoners will be able to talk to their families or lawyers for free for 10 minutes once in fifteen days.

In the same way, the jail administration has given the facility to new prisoners to make free phone or video call for 10-10 minutes three times in the beginning.

Jail department director general K Selvaraj said that with the introduction of this facility, while the number of visitors will be reduced, it will also save a lot of time.
