New Delhi, Sept.26 : In a major boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) ahead of the  run-up to upcoming assembly polls in Haryana early next month, former Indian national Hockey team captain, Sandeep Singh and Olympic medalist in Wrestling and Padma Shri awardee, Yogeshwar Dutt on Thursday joined the saffron party in the presence of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala and the party media in-charge and Rajya Sabha member, Anil Baluni in New Delhi.

 Addressing a press conference in the national capital today, the two sports personalities along with Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Balkaur Singh from Kalanwali(reserved) seat joined the BJP today. 

After being inducted into BJP,  former Hockey captain, Sandeep Singh said the reason behind him joining politics was he was deeply impressed by PM Modi and his honesty drew him towards the party. 

Singh added that, both PM and Haryana CM ML Khattar had done a lot of good work for the youth of the country. 

The former hockey player did not rule out the possibility of contesting the upcoming Haryana assembly elections and said he would follow the party’s command on whether he would contest the elections or not.  

Famed wrestler, Yogeshwar Dutt said he was very impressed with the leadership under Prime minister Narendra Modi adding that as a young leader, he wants to contribute towards the nation and praised the bold decision of abrogation of Article 370 from the state of Jammu & Kashmir(J&K) which was almost impossible. 

The country had been united and fully supported  the repealing of Article 370 taken by the PM. 

According to several reports, wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt might contest the upcoming state elections from Sonepat and had recently resigned from  Haryana Police. 

 It is noteworthy that, both Dutt and Singh reiterated that they would continue to serve the country in politics after doing so as sportspersons.
