First death due to COVID-19 in Maharashtra, third in country

Mumbai, March 17: 65-year old man who returned from Dubai passed away due to novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) at Kasturba hospital in Maharashtra Monday night.

This is the third death due to corona in the country. Earlier, a 76-year-old woman has died in Kalburgi, Karnataka and a 68-year-old woman has died in Delhiโ€™s Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

The 65-year-old from Dubai was being treated at Kasturba Hospital. He died last night. His son and wife have been admitted to isolation ward of Kasturba Hospital.

The old man who died last night in Kasturba Hospital returned from Dubai. On March 8, he was first admitted to the Rajawadi Hospital due to discomfort. After this, when the symptoms of COVID-19 came out, he was rushed to Kasturba Hospital along with his wife and son. The wife and son continue to be treated in the hospital.

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that 39 people are currently under treatment in the state for corona. 108 people have been kept in separate wards meant for COVID-19 patients. Also 1063 people have been kept in isolation at home.

So far, the 14-day quarantine course of 442 people has been completed. Necessary steps are being taken to prevent corona in the state.

Tope has appealed to citizens to take precautionary measures against COVID-19.
