Fact Check: Covaxin yet to get approval for children above 12 yrs, denies Union Minister

New Delhi, 12 October: Clearing the confusion over the use of Covid-19 vaccine on children, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Bharti Pawar said that no such approval has been given yet.

She said that the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) for children in the age group of two to 18 years is still considering. Experts will decide, after that the vaccine will come. The process is ongoing and we do not interfere in that.

It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, important news came about Covaxin that this vaccine can now be given to children from 2 years to 18 years. DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) has recommended the use of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for children.
