Ex President Pranab Mukherjee’s last rites at 2 pm at Lodhi Road crematorium

New Delhi, 01 September: The funeral of former President Pranab Mukherjee will be held at 2 pm today (Tuesday) at the crematorium on Lodhi Road.

However, his body will be kept at his residence at 10 Rajaji Marg, Delhi at 9:30 am for the tribute.

The former President and Bharat Ratna Mukherjee died at Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi at around 5.30 pm on Monday evening. He was 84 years old and was hospitalized for three weeks due to Corona infection.

The Government of India has declared a seven-day state mourning in the memory of Mukherjee.

As such, the national flag will remain half-tilted on all the buildings across India where it is hoisted regularly till September 6.

According to information received from Pranab Mukherjee’s family, dignitaries will pay tribute to the former President’s body from 9 am to 10 pm. After this, other dignitaries will be able to offer ‘Shraddha Suman’ from 10 am to 11 am. From 11 am to 12 pm, the general public will be able to pay reverence.

Due to the Covid-19 social distancing norms and other Corona related protocols, the remains of the former president will be transported in a horse van instead of a normal gun carriage. All the guidelines issued for Covid-19 by the Ministry of Home Affairs will be followed.
