Electricity to be cheaper from April 1 in Maharashtra

Mumbai, 04 March: In the midst of ever increasing fuel prices in the country, the Government of Maharashtra has taken a crucial decision to reduce electricity rates.

By this, this will provide a big relief to the electricity consumers of the state. Hence, the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has decided to reduce electricity rates by about 2 to 5 percent with effect from April 1 2021.

MERC has directed the consumers to benefit from the use of funds of electricity companies through FAC (Fuel Adjustment Tax).

According to information received from MERC, relief was introduced to the public through the FAC in March 2020. From March 2020 to March 2021 electricity rates were reduced by 10 percent for all residents, shops, companies and industry. From April 1 this year, Tata, Adani, Best, Mahavitaran Power Company has been directed to reduce electricity rates.

Mahavitaran – Relief of 1 percent for residential buildings and 2 to 5 percent for non-residential companies, industry.

Best- 0.1 percent relief to residential buildings, 0.3 to 2.7 percent relief to non-residential, company, industry

Adani – 0.3 percent relief to residential buildings and 1.4 to 1.6 percent relief to non-residential, company, industry

Tata – 4.3 percent relief to residential buildings and 1.1 to 5.8 percent relief to non-residential, company, industry
