Crime: Two and a half tons of firecrackers recovered in Varanasi, 2 held

Varanasi, March 11: The Chowk police of the temple town raided an under-construction house in Hadha Sarai before Holi and recovered a cache of about two and a half tons of firecrackers. Two people have also been arrested in the case.

According to Chowk police station in-charge, outpost in-charge of Piyari sub-inspector Pritam Tiwari, Humrah sub-inspector trainee Naveen Kumar Chaturvedi and other policemen were out on patrol in the early morning in the area, during this time a team came to know that illegal firecrackers were kept in the hall of an under-construction house located at Hadha Sarai. The police team took prompt action and arrested Hadha resident Mohd Rizwan and Rajkumar alias Abdul Hameed from the spot and recovered 2428 kg 500 grams of illegal explosive material (crackers).

He said that the explosives were kept in 94 cartons/sacks. The value of the recovered crackers has been estimated to be around Rs 15 lakh.

During an interrogation, both told that there was a preparation to sell it on the announcement of election results and Holika festival, but could not be sold due to the raid of the police.
